Welcome!

A very warm welcome to Barneys! We’re glad you’ve found our site and hope that you’d like to join our church family. Our focus in on life-changing Bible teaching and a loving community as we gather around the Lord Jesus Christ. We seek to reach out to our families, friends, and neighbours with the gospel of Jesus Christ.

About St Barnabas...

Barneys has been around since 1916, and we are deeply grateful to God for the wonderful work he has done among generations here. We are praying, hoping, and working that he will continue to work in and through us, helping us to grow together in the love and knowledge of Jesus.

What we believe

Barneys is Evangelical and Anglican

  • Being evangelical means being committed to the ‘evangel’ – the ‘gospel’ – the ‘great news’ about Jesus. It means we are simple bible based Christians. We want to let people know about Jesus, who he is, what he has done, and what he is doing. The message at the heart of the Bible is all about Jesus
  • Being Anglican means we are in partnership with other churches in the Sydney Diocese of the Anglican Church of Australia. Our heritage theologically and historically is in the Protestant Reformation of the 16th centuty and its expression in the 39 Articles and the Book of Common Prayer.

Location and Service Times

Barneys is located at the corner of William St & Macquarie Street in Roseville East:

More than just a building, the church is God’s people. At the heart of what Jesus is doing is “building his church.” Each Sunday we gather to listen to his word, the bible. We respond to this by encouraging one another, praising him through song, and remembering Christ’s sacrifice by sharing the Lord’s Supper. Regardless of when we meet, our purpose remains to love and honour Jesus. Our meetings aim to be clear, relevant and engaging.

Our church meetings are held at the following times:

8.30am

This is a traditional prayer book service with classic hymns on the organ and great bible teaching. The format alternates between ‘Morning Prayer’ and the ‘Lord’s Supper’. It usually shares the teaching program with the 10am meeting. (No chldren’s ministry)

10am

This service was started in 2007 and is attended by all ages and includes a kids spot for younger children. This service is contemporary and informal in style. There is a crèche for babies and toddlers. Barney’s Kids (Sunday School) also normally runs in conjunction with the 10am service.

6pm – new evening church plant
On March 9 we launched a new evening church plant in partnership with Christ Church St Ives. This is a contemporary informal meeting made up mostly of students and young workers. (No children’s ministry)

3rd Thursday of month @ 10am – a traditional service with Lords Supper

Vision Statement

Our new Vision Statement reads: We are called to live for Jesus, to see ourselves, our families, friends and neighbours radically transformed by the power of the Holy Spirit, through the Word of God, to know, love and serve, our God and Saviour Jesus Christ, his church and his world, to the glory of God our Father.
